A new dimension in communications
Supporting the fast-changing area of information infrastructure

Backed by years of experience with many different frequency bands during the analog era, the Communication Devices Division has penetrated the digital world. This division uses high-frequency circuit technology and other proprietary technologies to create products that support the dramatic evolution we've seen in communications. These include tuners for high-definition digital and varying broadcast systems in countries around the world; communication modules for next-generation information terminals; and transceiver units for mobile phones. This division is also developing devices for optical communications, including modules and lenses.

Supporting broadcast systems for the mobile age

In Japan, a mobile digital terrestrial AV and data broadcasting service for mobile phones and other compact information equipment has been launched. The Communication Devices Division has provided support for this new service, called One-Seg(Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting for Portable equipment in Japan), by drawing on its years of experience in high-frequency design and high-density mounting technology to develop TV tuner modules that are smaller than 10mm² yet deliver high-quality pictures. Also developing a module that supports both One-Seg broadcasting and Three-Seg digital radio broadcasting, this division is tuned into the latest needs in the mobile industry.

The camera in a mobile phone needs to do more than just take high-quality pictures. It also has to be able to capture fine print and read bar codes, for example. The Communication Devices Division has developed a camera module for mobile phones that provides three focusing functions - fixed, macro and auto - yet is the same size as previous modules. This development, achieved by applying actuator, precision processing and precision packaging technologies to the company's proprietary high-precision aspheric plastic lenses, is helping manufacturers build more advanced functions into their products.
