Many Years For Advanced Sensing Devices
In our Magnetic Devices Division, we draw on magnetic materials and thin-film forming technologies developed over many years in our development and production of magnetic heads. These advanced materials and technologies help us create a wide array of products. In particular, we've used magnetic elements that incorporate cutting-edge technologies to develop high-precision magnetic sensors, opening the door to a host of new application possibilities. Devices made by Alps Electric are used in the folding mechanisms of cell phones and laptop PCs, and in home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, where they detect whether the door or lid is open or closed. You'll find Alps Electric's magnetic devices and components supporting advanced functions and performance in equipment small and large, from compact digital products to automobiles.
New Field Sensor
Used in cell phones and other compact digital products, Alps Electric's highly reliable magnetic sensors are the result of many years of research and development. Because our sensors offer minimum performance deviation even at high-sensitivity levels and a wider detection range than conventional sensors, they allow greater flexibility in circuit board design and component layout. They also lead the industry in compact size, energy consumption and operating temperature stability, making them suitable for use in a wide range of products and fields.

Liqualloy™ Material
A continued focus on the research and development of magnetic materials such as amorphous alloys, nanocrystalline alloys and both mono and poly-crystalline ferrites led to the development of Liqualloy™ , a soft magnetic glassy alloy. The Magnetic Devices Division has also used its expertise in magnetic material manufacturing to develop sintered materials, bringing to life piezoelectric elements for both high performance and mass productivity. Developed along with this element, thin piezoelectric pumps are used in liquid-cooled systems for compact or portable devices that require anti-heating measures.
