Creating a Dynamic Workplace

Initiatives for Employees - ALPS WORLD 2007

ALPS WORLD 2007

In continuation from last year’s event, the second ALPS WORLD was held this year on Saturday, October 20 at the Grande-21 sports facility in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. ALPS WORLD is a sporting event participated in by domestic and overseas Alps Group employees from mainly Alps Electric, Alpine Electronics and Alps Logistics, and was created to enhance communication among workers and to promote a unique sense of unification throughout all generations across the entire Alps Group.*¹

The event this year again saw 3300 participants, including approximately 300 from overseas affiliates of the Alps Group. Overseas participants from 18 countries and regions such as Mexico, U.S.A., China, Sweden and Germany arrived in Japan on October 17, where they toured Group factories and experienced local Japanese culture, increasing their understanding of both Japan and the Alps Group. During the night festival that followed the sporting event itself, some overseas participants also introduced their own cultures to employees in Japan by performing folk dances and other displays.

Partaking in the event for the first time was Alps Electric Czech’s Human Resources Manager, Tomas Leder who played both organizing and participant roles. “An event such as this is very beneficial in creating communication among global employees. Workers from all over the world are finally able to meet each other, and this makes a big difference when they need to communicate by phone or e-mail during normal operations in the future.”

“I have also noticed that participants from the previous ALPS WORLD 2006 have become more active and motivated in promoting a more dynamic and pleasing working environment after their return back to their homelands. I think it’s because it created a sense of unification among all participants, as employees from differing countries and work types, who otherwise would not have had any communication with each other, joined to form teams for sporting events and cultural performances.”

“This year’s participants, including myself, were also able to share this common spirit as we realized we all belonged to the Alps Group. After returning home I’m sure that everyone will share their experiences and feelings of unification with others in their workplace and begin to actively participate in workplace initiatives that are aimed at creating a pleasant, friendly and dynamic working environment.”

As apparent in Tomas’ comments, Alps hopes to provide a workplace where every employee can display potential and individuality.
