Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Ota-ku, Tokyo; President: Masataka Kataoka) will participate in the Sensor Expo Japan 2008, an exhibition exclusively for products based on sensing technologies, to be held at the Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo) during a three-day period commencing April 23, 2008. Alps Electric will be exhibiting a range of its own sensor products, each of which applies specific sensing methods. Brief details are as follows.
At the event, Alps Electric's magnetic, piezo-resistive and resistive sensors will be exhibited.
Magnetic sensor exhibits will include geomagnetic sensors and those that detect mechanical switching and rotational angles. Piezo-resistive sensor exhibits will include the industry's smallest pressure sensors to be used for digital devices, which are rapidly becoming smaller and thinner. Resistive sensor exhibits will include long-life, high-precision automotive position sensors and load sensors.
Alps Electric's exhibits will also include other components used in sensing systems, including magnetic sheets for RFID applications.
Alps Electric's tireless approach toward innovative and dynamic development is expressed by the word “SENSORING™,” which combines the well-known concept of “SENSOR” with “ING” to convey the dynamism that is associated with the present progressive verb form in English.
Alps Electric has accumulated know-how and expertise in the fields of thin-film process technology, high-precision processing technology and materials technology through the development of switches, magnetic heads for hard disk drives and tuners for flat panel TVs, car navigation systems and mobile phones as well as touch pads for notebook PCs. These technologies, which have been nurtured through the development of various electronics components, are also applied to the development of sensors.
Alps Electric's sensors detect not only motion detectable by the human eye, but also invisible magnetic and optical forces. In fact, Alps Electric sensors for detecting motion and ambient conditions are increasingly being used for various applications, from cars to mobile phones.
