Alps Electric and its workers’ association have cooperated in supporting individuals with disabilities by making monetary donations every year’s end for 38 years. Money collected is donated to organizations such as city welfare departments and local facilities used by individuals with disabilities, which are situated near company locations such as factories and the head office; and also to Alps Electric employees who provide for family members with disabilities.
The collection began in 1970 as a program to mark Alps Electric’s 22nd anniversary, when the company wished to express its gratitude for the support that local communities had provided during the years, and to assist employees who provide for family members with disabilities. The company has since enriched collection activity over the 38 years by supplying additional funds and making other improvements in its administration.
Most recently, in November 2008, the company added to donations gathered from employees over a two-week period, after which the total was divided among local facilities used by individuals with disabilities, and a portion was also dedicated to assisting employees as mentioned above.
Alps Electric was rewarded with certifications of thanks and kind words from the recipients as the donations were handed over. A facility in Osaki City (Miyagi Prefecture) expressed, “We are grateful for the contributions over these many years, and we will make sure the money is used effectively in creating a friendly community,” and Soma City (Fukushima Prefecture) also announced, “The contribution will be used to improve local welfare.”
Alps Electric will continue collections and other activities that contribute to society in order that it as a company and each individual employee will always remember to express gratitude toward the community and to help support employees needing a little extra.
