Alps Alpine Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 6770; President & CEO: Toshihiro
Kuriyama) has entered a software license agreement with Qualcomm Technologies,
Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, to develop and deliver
communication modules for next-generation vehicles featuring the Qualcomm®
Snapdragon™ Automotive 5G Platforms. With Qualcomm Technologies’ wireless
technologies for next generation connected vehicles, this latest software
license agreement allows Alps Alpine to channel its resources into 5G
technology research and development, strengthening and accelerating its
efforts to commercialize modules for vehicle communication, as well as the
development and mass production of integrated communication units for the
automotive segment, which is an area of focus for the company. The agreement
will also aid in spurring Alps Alpine’s development of new products resulting
from synergies generated by business integration as the company advances
toward its “ITC101”* target.
As social implementation of 5G gains momentum, Alps Alpine is
working to develop and commercialize a variety of 5G-capable technologies,
which leverage 5G’s ultra-fast speeds, large capacity, low latency, mass
connectivity and high reliability. Especially within CASE domains (connected
cars, autonomous driving, sharing and services, and electric vehicles), Alps
Alpine views the standard as essential for viewing 4K or other large video
content and the use of online services as well as remote autonomous driving
keeping traffic infrastructure safety toward Level 4 era.
* ITC101: Alps Alpine’s mid- to long-term target of becoming an
Innovative T-shaped Company with 10% operating income margin and 1 trillion
yen sales.
